Banks

TSB Bank

3 Arundel St, Portsmouth PO1 1NB, UK – 023 9281 9351

The staff are always extremely helpful and friendly.

Staff very friendly and helpful at Portsmouth branch, I have banked there for two years. Competitively priced in-built overdraft facility with Classic Plus account 5% (tax free) interest on first £2000 credit balance and up to £5 cashback per month on contactless visa debit card transactions until December 2016 (payable one month in arrears). As well as staff being helpful and having good product knowledge, they are chatty and enjoy a good joke with customers. Best financial institution I have ever banked with. I would recommend my branch (and TSB in general) to anyone.

HSBC Bank

118 Commercial Rd, Portsmouth PO1 1EP, UK – 0345 740 4404

Overall couple of staff were very helpful here. Better customer service here compared to HSBC as a company in general. Pleased with outcome of my visit here

Carol, the customer service assistant was fantastic. Positive, enthusiastic and super helpful.

NatWest Bank

Debbie was so helpful and lovely. Made an appointment & was seen same day. It's not my local branch but would go back to see Debbie if I had anything to sort without hesitation. Plus the two other people I spoke to were very polite & nice. Well done nationwide you have excellent staff. Very pleased customer 😊👍

Dental Surgeries

The Dental Wave

27 Highland Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO4 9DA, UK – 023 9282 8193

Mr Murphy is thorough (and kind) and Sarah is the best hygienist ever!

They are the most helpful and caring dental practice I have ever come across and I have been to quite a few!

Coast Dental Health

307 Copnor Rd, Portsmouth PO3 5EG, UK – 023 9217 0201

This is probably the best dentist I have been to. The whole experience has been fantastic, when making the appointment the staff were really friendly and polite on the phone. I had an appointment with the dental hygienist (Jo), she was extremely polite, professional and friendly. My past experiences with other dentists have put me off visiting dental hygienist as it has always been painful. However, today it was completely different and pain free. All the staff I spoke to today were friendly. Kym who greeted me when I went in was wonderful. I feel this is a dental practice that other practices should learn from. I can't fault them in any way.

Coast Dental were wonderful and accommodated me as a same-day emergency non-registered patient! They allayed my fears following wisdom tooth extraction at another practice, and gave my a thorough examination and advice on how to deal with my symptoms. Would highly recommend! Thanks Jo and Kelly!

Hampshire Terrace Dental Care

Dental Surgery, 4 Hampshire Terrace, Portsmouth PO1 2QF, UK – 023 9282 3779

Recently visited for check-up & light work and was very pleased with the whole experience. The surgery has a friendly atmosphere and the staff were all very polite and considerate- qualities that are missing from so many other surgeries. Dentist himself made sure to explain the procedure and what was happening at each stage. Very easy process at reception too. Highly Recommended if looking for a surgery in Portsmouth.

Trafalgar Medical Group Practice

25 Osborne Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 3LR, UK – 023 9282 1371

The practice has become busier and it can is hard to get through on the phone and make advance appointments. HOWEVER my family and I have always been seen on the day quickly and efficiently when needed. The surgery now has a good system where you can message a doctor on their website which works well and a doctor will always phone you when needed. Face time is not always required which saves time all round. They have always been extremely kind and professional and gone to lengths to treat us. I would particularly like to praise Dr H Smith, Dr Price and Dr Singh.

Waverley Road Surgery

34-36 Waverley Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 2PW, UK – 023 9282 8281

The doctors are helpful and patient. It is very hard to get an appointment whithin a two week period and the walk in surgery often has large queues at the door first thing in the morning with wait times up to and around 2 hours.

I had been poorly for over a week. Rather than bother the surgery, I tried Paracetamol and Ibuprofen but I wasn't getting better. Having spoken to the surgery, the advice given was to come to the walk-in surgery rather than wait for over 2 weeks for an appointment. After being poorly for a week, I was so glad to be seeing a doctor. Sadly, the whole experience was most unpleasant. Having read the review from Tracy, who visited the walk-in on the same morning it seems that we have both been treated badly.

The Surgery

3 Aylward St, Portsmouth PO1 3DU, UK – 023 9281 2033

Have been a patient here for over 10 years. Reccomend so highly that I recently brought my wife and son over too which they accommodated. Other surgeries seem to struggle with demand but I always feel like here I am valued and appointments are made much quicker. Professional staff working in a high pressure environment. Have seen a few doctors change but my level of care has remained consistent.

I've found the staff to be polite and efficient.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Saint James Hospital

This was my father's work place for years the late Dr Bale .as a child spend a lot of time there it has really beautiful grounds with big willow trees . conkers you find there are amazing .I was christen at the chapel and my father married there to x I loved the spiny round doors x

I had to use there facilitys and found that the treatment i recived was second to none! The buildings might be old and dated but so would you be if you was born in the late 1800 (Hundreds) also the food there is prepaired on the site and not any of that in- ported rubish that most hospitals use nowerdays lol 199% best hospital i have visited or used.

Saint Mary's Community Health Campus

Milton Rd, Portsmouth PO3 6AD, UK – 0300 123 6610

I visited the dermalogical department yesterday and also 6 months ago. The doctor and nurses there are absolutely fabulous. So caring professional and made me feel like I could totally rely on them. Thank you so very much for your help.

There's a ER for minor injuries and illnesses running from 9 to 9 everyday. Better than a trip to QA. The only problem it's that not always there's a GP, only nurses. The midwife service in the campus it's excellent.

St Mary's NHS Treatment Centre

Milton Rd, Portsmouth PO3 6DW, UK – 0333 321 8277

Having seen three and a half hours waiting times for my grandson previously. My wife and I arrived at 7:15 for a 7:30 opening, receptionist was pleasant and helpful as was the triage nurse. We got to see the medical professional quickly after, who carried out a thorough, professional examination in a very attentive manner. However this person was NOT a doctor (GP) and admitted that there was NO GP available even though one was supposed to be on. What a total waste of a fantastic facility, we were advised to go to QA hospital or the after hours GP service at night. I can assure you that had I waited three and a half hours and had not encountered helpful and pleasant staff this review would have been a whole lot different. Building & Facilities 5* - Staff 5* Management Mad !

Find Local Churches & Places of Worship

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

68-78 Kingston Cres, Portsmouth PO2 8AQ, UK – 023 9269 6243

I love to worship here and to meet with friendly people.

During my time in England I've always enjoyed beeing at this church.

St Jude's Church

Kent Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 3EL, UK – 023 9275 0442

An active church with an impressive range of outreach projects. I have personal experience with the Friday Fridge (horribly appropriate in recent weather) and having previously been in danger of homelessness myself, I respect the community of this church who work for the dispossessed, all the more. The leadership team seeks to minister to and reflect the cultural diversity of the parish.

A Friendly Anglican Church for all types of people. I attended the 18.30 service, which is slightly more informal than the other two and I find it enjoyable and focused on God.

Family Church

Empower Centre, 83-87 Kingston Rd, Portsmouth PO2 7DX, UK – 023 9266 2257

Family church is exceptional. It truly embodies the idea of community coming together to meet and worship.

Good for coffee and tea, breakfast sandwich for those who are on low income.

Excellent service as always from these guys. Had more stuff than I thought, that I needed removing. They took it all away for me, which was a great help. I can recommend them to anyone, and I'm sure I'll be using them again in the future too. 👍👌

Called them up in the morning to get rid of house waste. They managed to fit me in on a busy Saturday with no problem. The job was done quickly and professionally. They even got rid of extra waste without hesitation and for the same price as earlier quoted. Thanks for the help!

H&S Metals

Prospect Road, Portsmouth PO1 4QS, UK – 023 9275 5900

Fast enough to take it ect so was best pleased with this outcome but when promised a payment into my account by 5pm latest (while incurring a £5 charge for this privilege!) I have yet to see anything in my account.(14th) *Edit* Have had the full amount paid into my account (15th) including a refund of the £5 express surcharge without full contact so thank you kindly!

I confirm what the previous reviewer said. Welcoming, friendly service. Quick and efficient too.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Portsmouth

Algarve's Grill

48 Osborne Rd Southsea, Portsmouth PO5 3LT, UK – 023 9307 6062

Been here many times. The food and staff are excellent. Go early for 5 tapas n bottle of wine for £25 excellent value. The main dishes also well priced and always very good.

One of my favourite places. Busy and buzzing in the evening and great for leisurely lunch and chat over coffee during the day. A great and friendly place.

Sopranos

108 Palmerston Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 3PT, UK – 023 9281 1139

Great food, great people ,great atmosphere. Unfortunately i have to give sopranos one star i haven't forgot what the Italians did in world war 2. Rule Britannia.

Great little Italian restaurant. Certainly advised to book. Great food, excellent service, friendly staff. Very good value for money.

Montparnasse

103 Palmerston Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 3PS, UK – 023 9281 6754

The best restaurant in the region, let alone the city. The food is exceptional with a great wine list. The staff are very friendly and helpful with a warm welcome from the proprietor. Unfortunately, we don't visit quite as often as we'd like but the consistency of the whole experience remains excellent throughout the years. Thoroughly recommended.

Food is excellent but a little bit overpriced in my opinion. Beer is £5 for a small glass. Small glass of coke £3. This coke was flat and I reckon it came from a larger bottle, not even a slice of lemon. Small tea or coffee £3.95. 3 course meal £43

Nursery and Preschools

Little Bears Forest Preschool

Shore Ave, Portsmouth PO4 8NB, UK – 07544 112751

Visited with a College student, the student and I welcomed by all the staff. The children were happy and stimulated with indoor and outdoor activities.Nurturing environment and if my son was pre school age again I would want him to attend. Fantastic experience, thank you.

My daughter attended Little Bears until she started school in September. I cannot express what a wonderful time my daughter had and how much she loved the staff, she had the best experience I could have wished for. The children are loved and nurtured so much, which was what I wanted most for my daughter, plus she got to play outside and get muddy every day! I only wish I could’ve taken my older son to Little Bears at that age too, so that he could’ve had the same experience.

She’s now due to start infant school in September and I know she’s going to miss them like crazy! The same as I will!! But it won’t be long till they have to put up with it again when my youngest little girl goes there too because I without a doubt would put that down as my first choice!! Thank you ladies so much!! We love you!! You all do a fabulous job for a charity funded school!! Love tash and Isla!! 😘 xx

Public & Preparatory Schools

Portsmouth High School (GDST)

25 Kent Rd, Portsmouth, Southsea PO5 3EQ, UK – 023 9282 6714

We have only been attending this school for a very short time, but in that time I can seen a significant positive change in my daughter. She has got her energy and enthusiasm for school back and that is down to the wonderful knowledgeable and inspirational staff, fantastic facilities and great opportunities at PHS. I would highly recommend and if I could, would give it more than 5 stars!

Our involvement with PHS goes back 11 years during which time all three of our daughters have attended. I can honestly say that the school is first class and has offered my girls fantastic opportunities. We were attracted to the small class sizes which means girls receive more attention than they would elsewhere. An all girl school means they don't have the added distraction of a mixed environment. Our girls have been very happy and formed long lasting friendships and to top it off exam results are best in the area - what more could you ask for.

I lived in Linnholm House for a school year. Forty year ago now. I'm planning a visit to England on June and will come close to have a look. Do schools and buildings change so much as pupils...let's find out.
